Adding this step to our cargo trailer conversion turned out to be one of the simplest upgrades that made a huge difference in everyday use. If you own a cargo trailer, you already know the entry height can be a little awkward. Stepping straight from the ground up into the trailer—or back down—gets old quickly, especially when you’re camping off-grid or parked on uneven ground.
We added the Lippert Components RV Step right outside our trailer door and immediately noticed the improvement. Instead of making one big step up, it creates a comfortable transition into the trailer. It feels much safer and far more natural when getting in and out throughout the day. (Note: We recently replaced our axle and the new one raised the cargo trailer several inches. Keep the height our your cargo trailer in mind when considering an option like this!)

One of the things we like most is the solid feel of the step. The Lippert Components RV Step is sturdy, stable, and doesn’t shift around when you step on it. The non-slip surface is also a great feature, especially early in the morning or late at night when visibility isn’t great.
For anyone building a cargo trailer camper, this is a small upgrade that delivers big everyday value. It improves safety, convenience, and overall comfort when using your trailer.
Sometimes the simplest additions end up being the ones you appreciate the most. This step has definitely become one of those for our build. It helps to make getting in to the trailer easier no matter where we are – boondocking in a swamp in Louisiana, sitting for a week in the wilderness in Wyoming, or simply maintaining the trailer when we’re at our tiny home in Tennessee.
