One of the things we enjoy most about our camping adventures is discovering new equipment that makes spending time outdoors a little easier. Whether we’re exploring the mountains of New Mexico, camping in a national forest or spending a quiet weekend at our tiny cabin, we’re always interested in practical gear that fits our simpler way of living. For our latest gear review, we’re taking a look at the ABORON Outdoors CQ5 inflatable tent, an alternative to traditional tents that uses inflatable air beams instead of conventional tent poles.
A Different Approach to Setting Up Camp
Anyone who has spent much time camping knows that setting up a traditional tent can sometimes be frustrating. Between sorting through poles, attaching clips and figuring out which piece goes where, even a relatively simple tent can take longer to assemble than expected.
That’s where inflatable tents offer an interesting alternative.
Instead of assembling a conventional pole structure, the Aboron Outdoors CQ5 uses inflatable supports that give the tent its shape. This approach simplifies the basic setup process and eliminates the need to connect multiple tent poles.
In our video, we take a closer look at the Aboron Outdoors CQ5, demonstrate its setup and explore how its design might fit into our camping adventures.

Room to Relax
The Aboron Outdoors CQ5 inflatable tent measures approximately 9.8 feet long, 6.9 feet wide and 6.4 feet tall, providing nearly 68 square feet of floor space. ABORON recommends it for up to four people sleeping or six people gathering inside.
For the way we camp, that space could serve several purposes. It could provide additional sleeping accommodations when family visits, a comfortable place to relax during an extended camping trip or an enclosed shelter alongside our cargo trailer.
The tent also features mesh windows for ventilation and insect protection, an important consideration when camping during warmer months.
Built for Changing Weather
The Aboron Outdoors CQ5 inflatable tent is constructed from 420D Oxford fabric with a PU3000mm waterproof coating and UPF50+ sun protection. It also includes a reinforced stove jack for compatible wood-stove installations in colder weather.
Of course, manufacturer specifications are only part of the story. Long-term durability, resistance to wind and rain, and how well the inflatable supports hold up over repeated camping trips are important considerations.
At approximately 30 pounds, this isn’t an ultralight backpacking tent. It’s better suited to vehicle-based camping, where comfort and convenient setup are priorities.
Does An Inflatable Tent Fit Our Simpler Lifestyle?
Our converted cargo trailer remains our primary home on the road, but we’ve always appreciated having a comfortable outdoor living area wherever we stop.
An inflatable tent offers another possibility for expanding our campsite without building a permanent structure or carrying a complicated collection of poles and hardware.
Whether you’re a weekend camper, a family looking for extra sleeping space or someone interested in an alternative to traditional tents, the Aboron Outdoors CQ5 is worth exploring.
