When it’s cold there is nothing better than a hot bowl of gumbo to warm your soul. Cupcake’s cooking is always good, and her gumbo recipe is especially delicious and versatile (we’ll post additional recipes using gumbo in the very near future). We’ve just uploaded a video to our YouTube channel that will walk you through the preparation and wanted to give you the basic recipe here:

Cupcake’s Easy Gumbo Recipe

  • 3 lbs of chicken breast, diced
  • 1 lb of Rabideaux’s Sausage, thinly sliced (theirs is the best – if you don’t use it, your gumbo won’t taste as good. FYI, we aren’t compensated for saying this – it really is that good.)
  • 1 tsp of minced garlic
  • Salt, pepper, and onion powder to taste
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 2 tsp of Kitchen Bouquet
  • 2 tbsp of Roux (your choice – fyi, – Roux (/ˈruː/) is flour and fat cooked together and used to thicken sauces. There are all kinds of Roux’s all over Louisiana, so if you’re somewhere else you may need to check Amazon).
