When you’re traveling and boondocking in a converted cargo trailer, keeping food cold isn’t optional—but using half your available battery power every day to do it isn’t ideal either. That’s where the SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro comes in.
Our older 12-volt cooler has traveled with us for years and has reliably kept our food cold, but we’ve become increasingly frustrated with its power consumption. We typically use a Bluetti AC180 portable power station in our cargo trailer, and the refrigerator can consume a significant portion of its available capacity in a single day.
When your electricity comes from batteries and solar panels, that matters.
So when SetPowerUSA offered to send us their RF30 Pro 12V refrigerator to test, we were interested in answering one specific question: Could we keep our food cold while using less power?
Putting the SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro to Work
SetPowerUSA provided the RF30 Pro to Cupcake and Cornbread Adventures for testing and review. They didn’t dictate our conclusions, and the results and opinions we’re sharing are based on our own experience using the refrigerator.
We started with the basics—unboxing the RF30 Pro, looking at its construction and learning how the controls work. One feature we quickly came to appreciate was Bluetooth connectivity. Using the SetPower app, we can monitor and adjust the refrigerator without having to physically access its control panel.
That might sound like a small convenience, but inside a 6×10 cargo trailer where every inch of space matters, being able to check the refrigerator from your phone is surprisingly useful.
Cupcake and I were also impressed with the overall construction. The SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro feels substantial and durable, which is important for something we intend to carry thousands of miles while traveling and camping.
But How Much Power Does It Use?
This was the test that mattered most to us.
We connected the SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro to our Bluetti AC180 and monitored its power consumption over time. We looked at the refrigerator’s power draw and how much energy it consumed per hour while keeping everything cold.
We also operated the refrigerator while simultaneously charging the AC180 with solar.
That’s much closer to the way we’ll actually use the SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro while boondocking. We’re not interested in laboratory conditions—we want to know what happens when we’re camping somewhere without electrical hookups and depending on the sun to replenish the energy we’re using.
The less electricity the refrigerator consumes, the less solar energy we have to replace. That can mean fewer solar panels, less generator use and more battery capacity available for everything else in the trailer.

More Than Just Power Consumption
We also tested and examined some of the SetPowerUSA RF30 Pro’s other features, including the Ice Pack 2.0 system, reversible lid, exterior dimensions and usable interior space.
But ultimately, a refrigerator has one job that matters more than anything else: keep the food cold.
During our testing, the RF30 Pro has done that reliably. Combine that performance with its Bluetooth functionality, durable construction and the potential for lower energy consumption, and this becomes much more than another piece of camping gear for us.
It could become the refrigerator we carry on our future adventures.
We also want to thank the Semper Gumbie channel for helping us learn more about SetPower. We always appreciate creators helping other creators.
For us, this wasn’t simply another product review. It was about finding a possible solution to a real problem we’ve encountered while living and traveling off-grid.
Same adventures. Less power. And that’s exactly what we’re looking for.
